Taipei Trip Day 5

The trip had ended and we are all back in Singapore safely. The children enjoyed the trip so much that they didn't want to leave Taipei. Nevertheless, all of us missed our friends and family in Singapore, and we were really excited when we finally arrived at Changi Airport late last night.

With this final set of photos, we have ended our 5 days learning journey. We would like to thank all the parents for your support and we hope you can continue to support your child in his/her respective UG activities.

Taipei Trip Day 4

Chongfu teachers were heartened to see all the students returning from the Homestay looking excited and eager to share their fun and adventure with their friends. All of them arrived with a glow on their faces, shopping bags and souvenirs to bring home for friends and family members. The day spent with the host families was truly the most memorable part of this trip, and we were really touched by the enthusiasm and warmth of our host.

To show our appreciation, we hosted a feast for the Principal, teachers and host families of Xin Yi Elementary School. The dinner marked the end of the Homestay Programme for the trip.

Taipei Trip Day 3

Last night, we had a lot of fun camping outdoors and sleeping with our schoolmates in the tents we pitched. Although the weather was turning quite cold, all of us managed to survive the night. In the morning, we were greeted with a warm Taiwanese breakfast of glutinous rice and soya bean milk.

After breakfast, we waited eagerly for the hike. The local tour agents informed us that we will be climbing the Elephant mountain (象山), which is one of the famous "Four Beasts Mountains"( 四兽山) in Taipei. The foot of the mountain was within walking distance from the school, we were delighted when our buddies and many of their parents came to join us for the hike. Most of us were panting and perspiring along the way, it was not a easy hike but it was worth the effort as we enjoyed the breathtaking view of Taipei city and Taipei 101 at the different rest points.

We spent some time cleaning up the school and unpitching the tents before going back with our host families. We are looking forward to see our friends and share stories with them tomorrow!

Taipei Trip Day 2

Today, we visited Xin Yi Elementary School and met up with our buddies. The highlight of the afternoon was the trip to Taipei Flora Expo, it was a real eye-opener! There was endless displays, performances and flora exhibits to visit, and we only managed to visit part of the expo after spending 5 hours there.

The scout leaders and our host families prepared a very sumptuous BBQ dinner after we returned to the school. During the handicraft session after dinner, the parents of the scout group taught us how to make beautiful candles as souvenirs. It was a good chance for us to interact with our buddies and our host families, we really appreciate their enthusiasm in hosting us.

Reflection by Titus Ong

The cultural exchange programme to Bangkok, Thailand has been most fun and enjoyable. On Day 1, we arrived at the Wangree Resort and settled down. After a simple dinner, we played ice-breaking games with our Thai buddies. Day 2 was packed with adventurous activities conducted by professional Army Trainers to ensure safety. We went to a five-storey tower to attempt the Flying-Fox. After the Flying-Fox, we went for laser-gun shooting. It was my first experience with a ‘real’ rifle and sensed the impact of shooting was great. After our lunch at the resort, we embarked on water-rafting. Indeed, water-rafting was the most interesting event of the day. At night, we conducted an indoor campfire. Action-songs like Bumble Bee, Flea Fly were thrilling and we sang at the top of our voice.

On Day 3, we checked out from the Resort without hast and continued our journey to the Dream World which was my second visit. The rides and games were exciting although I’ve played them before. After the fun-filled rides at the Theme Park, we travelled to Rittiyawannalai School for Home-stay Induction Ceremony where we were introduced to our buddies’ parents. They were kind-hearted and warm. We had light refreshments prepared by the teachers. Later, Jovi and I were brought by our hosting family to dine on a ferry-restaurant. I was quite worried when I spotted a crocodile lying on the sand, below a nearby house.

On Day 4, we visited the school again to bid farewell to the teachers and students. At the same time, we put up a performance of dance and song. I was slightly nervous and almost got stage-fright. However, the local students applauded to give us support. Later we went to MBK Shopping Centre. I was strolling with five fellow friends and we almost lost our way while window-shopping in the spacious MBK. Thank God that we managed to find our way and meet up with our teachers. Time flew and the last day in Bangkok arrived. Before we travelled to the airport, we had the opportunity to visit another Shopping Centre, Commerical Square, where I happily bought souvenirs for my family members.

As I looked back and recalled the wonderful days in Bangkok, I was thankful for all the teachers from both Singapore and Thailand for making this unique and interesting learning journey a success. Thank you, teachers and fellow buddies in Thailand who had made this Goodwill Cultural Exchange Programme a memorable and fruitful one. I looked forward to meet my buddy Ding again in the near future.

In closing, it is a successful and meaningful learning trip. I believe we had succesfully created a lot of opportunities for our students to interact, to play with each other, to develop common experiences and to establish lifelong bonds among themselves, as well as with the Thai people.

My very best wishes to all the participants and i wish you well as you continue you wonderful learning journey.
